I understand there are some rumblings about the demise of the Gulch with the coming of AtlasShruggedUniverse.com?

I know I've been a bit out-of-pocket lately guys, but nothing could be further from reality. http://AtlasShruggedUniverse.com is a joint venture between the Atlas Society and Atlas Productions (us) and is intended to be a great source of content FOR the Gulch.

I spoke to John Aglialoro at length today about the future of the Gulch and he just APPROVED FUNDING for the next phase of GULCH EXPANSION.

Seriously.

As a matter of fact, I made a phone call immediately after speaking to John to one of our very own Gulch Producers to say "It's on. You ready?" Yep, we pulled engineer extraordinaire, Rick Poach (Eudaimonia), up from our own rank and file to come help build the next iteration of the Gulch.

We're not going anywhere. And, neither should you be. We're just getting started.

Welcome to the team Rick.

This is an interesting newsletter to be sure. I look at it every day actually. However, I really wonder what good all this will do in my lifetime. There are so many socialists that it seems to be some part of human nature- never to be eradicated. Its quite depressing actually to see how prevalent the idiocy of socialism is today.

I can see why most of the characters in Atlas Shrugged wanted to shrug and see the system crash faster, rather than drag on the misery.

I can tell you that if there was a John Galt, and he came to me today and offered to take me to a place away from this insanity, I would go with him in a heartbeat and leave all this behind. But, there isnt a John Galt, and Atlantis, or even a place where one would be safe from governments on this earth. I really need an Atlantis now, not in 100 years. Maybe there are enough people who would donate in kickstarter to actually start an atlantis. Maybe to start as a resort somewhere, and then morph into another country.

    Congrats, Rick.
Thanks, Scott. I hadn’t been paying attention. This saves me from catching up on the hysteria. (J/K)

I had intended to quit the Gulch after AS3 - mainly because I feel very visible here. But when I saw a report of the number of people in the Gulch, I realized that this _was_ the Gulch - and, as such, worth the exposure of my opinions that contributing to it entails. (I would not mind if you restate the number of subscribers - it blew my little mind and I would not object to a confirm.)

Additionally, there is a constant stream of value - such as jbrenner's expedition to see the geodesic houses. (I am not a particular fan of geodesic myself but I found the construction techniques and materials fabulous.) I have learned technology, history, and politics in this list, to an extent that it is worthwhile staying for the content.

I have been musing that the spin-off from producing a movie may be producing reality. (This will not be the first time this has happened - eg Alcubierre Drive.) And because the movie was in 3 pieces and happened over a span of years, we had time to get to know each other and migrate from 'talking about the book/movie' to 'talking about how to make it real'.

My thanks to you, Scott, is for providing this venue in the first place and for having a high opinion of the people who have been brought together by its agency. I will look forward to what Eudiamonia cooks up.

    Glad to hear it.

I'd like to see the site become a place for political and economic organizing. We've got to build a party machine (or some substitute for one) that can tackle the ones we're up against.

Great news! Looking forward to the expanded version. The election is just barely over and the newly elected weasels will probably take credit for creating one job... Rick`s.
