While it is truly a pathetic ploy, the problem is that they could time their rulings to cause all kinds of problems come the 2016 elections without enough time for any real suit to be brought or adjudicated in time to matter. The FEC could in effect perform the same targeting the IRS did during the 2012 campaign. While it is certainly illegal (although with Obama packing the Federal court system as he has, who knows how the rulings will shake out), it is truly a chilling outcome that you know progressives would love.
