So in my state, you can register to vote online. I tried it and I have to admit it is convenient. I went online on a Saturday night, put in my name, address and birthday, and checked off the "yes I am a citizen, yes I am 18, and no I'm not a felon". On Monday morning I got an email stating I was successfully registered and it gave the address to the voting location.. I also don't have to show an ID to vote in my state.. Now I am a pretty honest person and I AM actually eligible to vote and I live in the address I put on the form. Granted it is a pretty serious crime to lie on that form, I really don't see any safeguards to make sure people are who they say they are besides the 'threat' of POSSIBLY getting in trouble at some point.. it's like the system is built to make fraud easier. Hmmm...
Despicable. Yes we need universal proof of registration and voter ID laws. Any illegitimate vote nullifies a legitimate one. Who is being disenfranchised then?!?!
Yep! I ran into a teacher at the polls in 2012 and she was bringing her and her girlfriend's absentee ballots to drop off...AND she stopped to tell me that her girlfriend said, "Okay...who am I voting for?" And she told her who to vote for... and believe you me... it was not who I was standing in line to vote for. When she walked away I told my husband..."welp, those are the two votes were canceling out... ugh."
This vote fraud doesn't surprise me in the least. What surprises me is that the person was actually caught on film. Welcome to the Banana Republic of the USA.
All going according to plan for one party at any rate. The other party thinks it helps them, or at least their backers, but in that they are delusional.
I found out that a new law in Montana is that if you write in a candidate, or write No Confidence on the ballot, it is set aside and not counted unless there is a tie or run off etc. Basically it invalidates all your choices if you don't darken the pre-selected choices. I doubt the law is Constitutional.
However, in New Hampshire they are set aside and counted after the pols close by a team. Each ballot is reviewed by the team to determine what the intended vote was. Write ins for any office are counted for that write in name, assuming its not Mickey Mouse or something equally BS.
In NH they ARE counted. I am a counter for every election in my town. Makes for a late night sometimes, but I'm willing to do that to make sure all votes are counted, and counted correctly.
Only in rare circumstances could it make a significant difference in the outcome. The number of votes like this are generally pretty small.
"Spoiled" ballots the machines can't read are far more common, and the main reason for the late nights on a big election. (No hanging chads in my town, we use optical readers)
In my part of Florida, voting isn't third world. We also use optical readers, but does anyone remember discernment of hanging chad from southeast Florida during Bush v. Gore? It made me embarrassed to be a Floridian. BTW, I voted for the libertarian and got told by many that I was to blame for the fiasco.
