Armored vehicle helps collect civil judgment in small town

Disagree with town government, they send a tank after you. It's so great to live in a 'free' country.

Someone in another post today commented that they had 'faith' in their police force. Here's your faith.

"When officials in the tiny Town of Stettin in Marathon County went to collect a civil judgment from 75-year-old Roger Hoeppner this month, they sent 24 armed officers.

And an armored military vehicle."

        Yeah, but $86,000 for a messy yard seems a bit much. At least he's still alive, they did take the cuffs off of him once he agreed to go straight to the bank, then they cut $6000 off since they didn't have to haul equipment off. And oh yeah, this was the second time, so they were good enough the first time to leave him some equipment for them to come after the second time.

        But I bet he understands his position now.

    You no longer own property, you are just paying the taxes as rent. This infuriates me... Who has that much money sitting around. They stole his retirement fund and think it's just fine to do so. This is what our government has become..and it is only going to get worse.. :-(

    This wasn't about a danger to the community.
    It's about aesthetics.
    His property use wasn't pretty enough for someone and they wanted him to be punished for his supposed lack of good taste.
    How DARE he stack up pallets on his property within sight of my easily offended eyes!
    That is a great reason to attack him with a tank.
    The weapons of mass destruction have been found at last. They are in police departments across AmeriKa to enforce unjustified theft of private property through unconstitutional forfeiture.
    This is what will cause people to finally awaken, but will it be soon enough?

    Another case of government gone wild. What ever happened to peace officers? I like them a whole lot better when they are you friends instead of trying to catch you doing something wrong.

        The point is they own him, his property, and his land, and they needed the hardware to instill the fear of the great city government into him so he would quake in his boots and pay all they demanded of their serfs. And the object lesson was not lost on the neighbors as well - they will ALL pay now, because they know the city is all powerful and will send the tanks to THEIR front yard next.

      The problem is that he isn't doing anything wrong.
      The zoning board created the "crime" ( the fraudulent non-aggressive crime of clutter accumulation) so that they could justify using force.
      We are in trouble in this nation when such capricious governing leads to the decimation of an individual's life...and it is unfortunately becoming increasingly common.

    In transit across Wisconsin, I've passed this property at least 100 times. It is not visible from Highway 29. There are no residents across the street to"view" the clutter. Reference any satellite view of Packer Drive. I'm wondering what the "municipality" is doing regarding the two adjacent properties to the west of Hoeppner's. This has all the earmarks of a tin-pot-buerocrat vendetta.

    My Grandpa who was fluent in 4 languages, was amused by the syntax of a true event that his father told him about the 80 year old Jew who refused to move out of his apartment that was being confiscated in WW1 Lublin, Poland. His wife who had put up with his stubbornness for over 50 years, slapped his face and said, "Yakoff, up the street the soldiers, they are coming down." To illustrate totalitarianism, our family as often used and re-used that phrase. And so, in the small town of Stettin, I can only say, Watch out! Up the street, the soldiers they are coming down.

    When the police are militarized to this extent the distinction is virtually non existent. So much for Posse Comitatus... One of the enumerated reasons for starting the revolution was the abhorrence of standing armies among the people.
    When a couple of policeman could pick up the man quietly when he goes to his mail box, or off the street when shopping, they choose to come in with olive drab armored vehicles, military style garb, weapons and tactics ... All the better to intimidate the rest of the populace.

        As opposed to the M-1 Abrams tank, which is a lot heavier. But the Department of Defense has placed these vehicles with small-town police departments and sheriff's offices for years. Only now some of those departments are trying to send them back, because part of getting a "free" vehicle is getting stuck with its upkeep.

      It is now in the hands of armed citizens to take care of business. Do those jack booted Gestapo thugs sleep well at night?? Time to plaster this and their faces over every available media outlet, as they are the REAL criminals!

      The fact that this is what was resorted to in order to collect, (rob), the elderly man of his hard earned savings, is the worst sort of shakedown I've seen in a long time. Civil disobedience in order, people!

        While I agree that citizen action is needed against thugs, this is only a more obvious and petty infraction when compared to the wholesale theft of life, liberty, and property by the banksters. Their guilt is obvious to anyone who opens his eyes and severe punishment is warranted.

    Holy Hell! "He also said what while Hoeppner was never considered dangerous, he was known to be argumentative." Is being "argumentative" against the law? Isn't the covered under the 1st Amendment? These "authorities" are OUT of control. Leave people and their property ALONE. This is gestapo style shit.. picking on old people. omg. Can't imagine why he might want to argue about what they're doing to him.

    Let me rephrase a section of this article

    People don't understand it but the use of overwhelming force is almost a necessity these days.

    Yes a light tank is bit overwhelming against a 70 year old man that wont leave his house. Guess he would like his house to not be knocked over by his government that exists to "protect and serve" him. Well not him just those that agree with and will pretend civility with them.

      Another rephrasing "He doesn't like us harassing the shit out of him and attempting to intimidate him so he tries to discuss it with us and before you know it he's all angry and argumentative and stuff. He doesn't respect authority, even when we show up with scary military vehicles. There must be something wrong with him, that usually works in making comrades complicit."

    When I saw this I immediately thought about posting it too. This is a tiny town. If you blink while driving you will miss it. What is a little town like this needing a armored vehicle? Whith that said keep in mind that the man's yard in a subdivision looks like crap with old wooden pallets stacked high all over the place. It is an eye sore with some of the video I have seen on TV But an armored vehicle to arrest a 75 year old? Is this really needed?

        Except in the government's eyes, the term "people" was redefined to mean "Government officials, Law Enforcement, and others deemed of the privilege of power and prestige..." about the same time they redefined militia as "the national guard and military units only as authorized by the United States Government"...

        Don't confuse that with the old definition, that ised to include those now in the "Serf and Subservient to the government" class...

            Government by fiat (and no, not the carmaker) at present... tho since Mopar (now part of Fiat) makes milspec equipment, I could be wrong...

            They rely on the illusion that they have larger, more dangerous equipment... they have more "might" and that's the basis of their being "right". Why else does the local LEO's have M-16's, MRAP's, and a hundred thousand rounds of hollow point? To protect against "terrorist evildoers"? Or to show they have the "might" to keep in business, if some wise@$$ "citizen" thinks they're gonna show them differently with their little single shot 22 without ammo...

                I would love to have some .762" ammo and a rifle to shoot it! Woohoo!!!!! (Yeah, I know what you meant, but the idea of a 3/4"+ round make my heart skip a joyful beat!)

                I went to the local gun shop, and noticed a preponderance of "black gun" and pistol sales... (this in the People's Free Socialist Demokratik Republik Union of Kalifornicatia)... which gives me an inkling of hope - NOt "hope and change", but hope FOR change!

                While some people will bow down to their knees, to love and fear their appointed leaders with all reverence and subservience demanded, there are those even here (outside of the liberal enclaves) that will never trade in their American birthright regardless of what the socialist lackeys of the SF-LA-Sacto ilk and their Chicago-ist Masters demand.
