This entire issue is mustang droppings suitable for Dark Center congress critters. (Without apologies for my obviously racist use of the word Dark.)
However, from my distance I reckon the conclusion is wrong.
Firstly, where are all the native Americans (sorry if that description is offensive, can never be sure) who claim to be offended by the name? All I have heard is one WASPY politician, apart from a few NAs who are ok with the name.
Second, when the name was chosen it must have had some connotation of energy, skill, effort or such like. No one would have chosen a name that was denigrating to their team.
Well I could be wrong, suppose it was at one time a term of insult. Later events of especially tens of thousands of fans cheering to that word would have reversed that meaning.
