The Value of AS3

To paraphrase John Galt: Are you seeking to know what is wrong with the world? All the disasters that have kept your world from accepting Objectivism, came from your attempt to evade the fact that A is A. The result of your error or evasion was to hide from you the necessity to understand that the words people need to hear are not the words you think they need.

“Atlas Shrugged, Who Is John Galt?” is designed primarily to bring others to understand the ideas that we already understand. If you watch the film with that context in mind, you can sit back and enjoy the benevolent spirit of the Gulch, and appreciate the portrayed indomitable will to live one’s life and to show others what they need to understand. The opening scene at Twentieth Century Motors sets the context, and with the narration, and “speeches” help make the film understandable to those unfamiliar with Rand’s ideas. The film is ideal for those we need to reach.

My husband is one of 'the others' that needed to be reached. After we watched part 3, he asked me if I could find Galt's speech in the book so that he could read it in its entirety. He left the room for a while to read, and he came back smiling. He said "he is right...about everything." I was very proud, but didn't say anything more about it. The following day we had a full discussion about what he read and the correlation with what is going on in our country today. He asked me questions about objectivism and said that he wants to learn more. I never pushed my way of thinking or doing on him; I have always lived my life the way I want, and offered no explanation to him or anyone. I wanted him to come to his own conclusions with little to no input from me - on his terms. It finally happened.

All I can say is, he loved Parts 1 and 2, but Part 3 changed his life.

The link that was hand written over the doorway to John Galt's Apartment complex is an interesting read, for those that haven't already been there. www.societyproject.org

That was the most clear, but I believe it was also in the graffiti here and there through the movie. Too quick to clearly make out, but I kept catching just a glimpse of the .org. The one above the door was clear as day and on screen long enough to be useful.

A wonderful post. My wife never read the book. She thought Part III was the best movie of all three. If you never read the book you didn't know what was missing. More people will read the book with the three movies released.
