The November Man / Rated R for sex, violence, language, smoking and drug usage.
You have to ask. Why didn’t this movie open in November? Nobody is saying. Box office results also indicate people are waiting for November at which time this movie should be available for home viewing from all kinds of sources. Good news. You can wait with everybody else.
Pierce Brosnan comes back as an aging but spry spy adept at all the spy things you have to be good at to keep your job. He has retired and trained his replacement in the persona of Aussie actor Luke Bracey who is well known to his family. LB is good at his job but during some spy goings on come out at odds to his mentor and trainer PB. This means things in Belgrade and Montenegro where the filming was done break out in gun fights, explosions, car and truck crashes, beatings as well as knife and razor blade wounds and many blunt objects bashing into faces and other vital parts of the anatomy. The misunderstandings are all decisively settled.
When the above violence isn’t taking place PB and LB are both trying to figure out what is going on and why. The bad guy appears to be a Russian Putin wannable and a whole bunch of CIA bosses that cannot be trusted. Neither can the Police, the local Detectives, Bar Bouncers and Sky Caps at the bus depot and or airport. Seems for some reason everybody is out to do in everybody else for a reason or reasons that are not entirely clear.
If you are in the audience best to just let them sort it out on screen while you enjoy the antics taking place. Unfortunately the antics go on well beyond the point where the audience and the characters on screen should have it all figured out. This might have been helped if they had cut twenty or so minutes from the film running time. Like that’s going to happen.
So while Pierce B. now 61 is past his James B. days he still puts on a good show. In another 15 years he will qualify to join “The Expendables”.
Rated 2.9 out of 4.0 to wait until November. See above.
