Government (post office) decrepit infrastructure

I am amazed the poor condition of the mail boxes around Los Angeles. If they were a private company they would never get this bad. As a side note, just after I posted the John Galt sticker, the mail carrier came. I figured he would remove the sticker. I looked later that day and he had left it there where it stayed for several days despite numerous mail pickups....He was either a fan of Atlas Shrugged or just apathetic....

USPS has been going downhill for years - just be glad you still HAVE drop boxes - they yanked a lot of them as a "cost saving measure"... Meanwhile, their rates keep going up, and up, and up (does anyone else still remember the 2¢ postcard and 6¢ first class mail?)... They're also closing Post Offices - and cutting staff to the bone in the ones that stay open.

Never a more poignant example of when a "private" company (yes, Franklin set up the USPS to operate like a business, not an agency) climbs in bed with the dotgov. When you see all the junk flyers in your mailbox - it's an attempt to get more revenue in their hands.

If FedEx or UPS or DHL or any of the private delivery companies ever go into snail mail delivery (and figure how to do it profitably), the USPS will go the way of the dodo.
