Apparently, you have only lived alone and worked alone. Virtually every traditional human institution has some kind of hierarchy. Those that do not, those that are truly agoric, are rare. Small towns are ruled just the same as big cities... only smaller...

I must insist that the city is the creation of trade and commerce. Moreover, I point to THE GREENING OF AMERICA by Charles Reich and Thoreau's WALDEN as two examples of the anti-urban agenda of the pastoral utopians. The university hippies would have us all move back to the land to be in touch with nature, and all that.

"Only about 12% of us live in one of the 28 megacities. "
And the elite of those 12% think they know what is best for everyone, and believe they have the right to force the rest to live as the 12% command.

The wireless world is slowly learning not to use the same rules in densely populated cities and rural areas.
    http://www.element14.com/community/commu...
"In rural regions, there will be plenty of bandwidth even for services covering a broad area. Urban regions, will follow the pattern of renting commercial or residential space in a dense urban area with prices shockingly high to people from less densely-populated. As with many issues, rural people will want a more laissez-faire approach and urbanites will want a strong Leviathan to maintain a framework for people to live together in close proximity in peace.
When making spectrum use policy, we should avoid a one-size-fits-all approach for entire countries. We need a way to allow a device to hog all the spectrum in a rural field but negotiate a rental price when the same device is located in a place like the Sears Tower. "
