I think this article is carefully written attempt to expand funding and power of the FDA. However, the problems with food additive allergies appear to be real. Is the failure dependence on a central 'food safety' agency ? Given that apparent failure, can the free market be encouraged to prevent injury to a small minority of customers?

Or could these allergies be akin to the mythical MSG syndrome that absolutely no scientist has been able to prove its existence.
These occasional "additive induced" side-effects could be caused by improper food handling, undercooking or any one of hundreds of transient illnesses that plague humans on a regular basis.
