"There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don't want the patient to get well." Booker T Washington 1911

I think Ferguson is the confluence of two major issues. The first is the expectations of black communities that their lives and received respect were going to improve dramatically with Obama as the President, and it hasn't happened.

The second is the training of police over the last decade or more that prepares each policeman to expect interactions with the populace to be confrontational and to take the slightest indication of disgruntlement as an immediate move to escalate the interaction to 'control', and that escalation provides justification for deadly force. The young black male, and many youth of all races have been taught to be overly assertive in such interactions, that they have a right to expect respect from government.

    The mixture result is death.

Booker T. was always a favorite of mine. Didn't he start Tuskegee, so that the freed slaves would be able to learn a trade and thus gain a living?
